Your observation about Draco's creepiness and compassion being in balance makes me laugh - what more can I ask for? :D I hadn't consciously thought about the precarious nature of the whole situation, but you're right. There was quite a lot of tension there, I suppose. I think that's part of their appeal for me - the constant push and pull, and the fact it very easily could go horribly wrong at any minute... but yet they are still drawn to each other, irresistibly, and in some screwed up way, it work.
