Scorpius stared petulantly at the door, willing it to open, and for his parents to come in to have a talk with him. At his continued stare, the door suddenly clicked. His little heart thumped in anticipation, but he frowned when the door didn’t open or did he hear footsteps outside his room. He slowly crept towards the door and turned the door handle. Peeking through a small crack the door and the frame created, his head slowly stuck out into the hallway.
All was quiet. He didn’t see anyone.
For the first time since he had gotten into trouble, he smiled, and crept out into the hallway before closing his bedroom door silently.
He didn’t stop to look back to see if anyone was following him, and ran towards his favourite hiding place.

As Scorpius arrived outside in the garden, he heard voices. He quickly hid behind one of the hedges, and edged closer towards his favourite spot, the big oak tree, and ultimately nearer to his parents—for he figured out it was his parents’ voices.
He could tell his father was trying to console his mother with his tone of voice. It was very much like when his grandfather angered his grandmother, and nothing would placate her. He had only seen that happen once in his short life. It had enlightened him that his grandfather was not an all-fearing man, as he had at first believed him to be.
“You’re not a bad mother, Hermione,” his father said.
“I am! I yelled at him, I don’t know what I was thinking,” his mother moaned, seemingly embarrassed. “What would he think of me?”
Scorpius now felt just a bit bad, and wanted to run up to give his mother a big hug. But he decided to stay and listen some more when he heard his father continue to console his mother.
“With his own broom, I’m sure he’d be so excited that he’ll forget about all this.”
His mother sounded outraged. Scorpius was gleeful. A new broom!
“Draco! You’re not getting Scorpius his own broom! What if he falls?”
“Have you not any trust in me?” his father asked, in a sweet voice. “I won’t let our son fall. I’m sure Cassiopeia would love for her daddy to teach her to fly.”
Twack.
“Oww! Hermione!” whined his father. He peaked around the hedges and the trunk of the tree to look at what had happened. His father was rubbing his head, while her mother looked furious.
“You,” her mother said, pointing her finger to his father’s chest, “are”—another point—“not”—another jab—“going”—another poke—“to”—another prod—“teach our children to fly at such a young age! I thought we had agreed on this!”
Scorpius cringed as his mother wailed at his father. He felt sorry for him as his father’s facial expression winced as well, but luckily his mother didn’t see.
“Hermione…Hermione…’Mione,” his father sighed. “I was only teasing you.”
“Teasing me?! How can you be so cruel?”
He saw his father wince again.
“I’m sorry, Hermione. Let me make it up to you.” Scorpius saw his father try to kiss his mother, and cringed. They were kissing again. Yuck!
The kiss seemed to quell his mother’s emotions and she was smiling again. They both laughed when both their hands touched her stomach.
“Cassie’s saying,‘hi’!”
“She is, isn’t she?” his father chuckled.
His mother glanced slyly at his father before continuing, “She’s also saying that she wants chocolate ice cream with Smarties and M&Ms on top.”
“Right now?” Scorpius could tell his father wanted to groan, but didn’t dare to, lest he trigger her emotions again.
“Yes, now.”
“What about Scorpius?”
“I’m sure he can wait a bit. He’s probably fallen asleep by now.”
Scorpius was affronted. He wasn’t asleep! But, of course, they didn’t know that. It was probably better that they didn't know that he was listening in on their conversation.
“Maybe Mipsy can get it…” his father started to say before his mother pinched him. “Right, no house-elves. I’ll go get it then. I’ll be right back.”
Scorpius saw his father Apparate away before he decided to stealthily make his way back to his room. After all, he didn’t want to get in trouble again, or be found out of his room.
As he ran into his room and shut the door behind him, he smiled.
He’d forgiven his mother for yelling at him.
And his jealousy at having a new sibling was alleviated somewhat by what he just saw.
Perhaps, Cassiopeia would even be fun.
If not, then he could always say he was older.
