Well... It was partly to do with this being the first kinkfest I'd ever taken part in, and this kink seeming very vanilla to me when I came to write it. So I started off by making Draco much more callous, and focused on his own physical pleasure -- you can see the remnants of that attitude when he says, “Granger! Why am I not surprised?”
But I had two problems with that. First, I don't really see Draco as evil (as Tom Felton says, he's just had bad parenting), so I couldn't keep his voice consistent. Secondly, I couldn't see why Hermione would let a bastard!Draco have sex with her, especially given her period. So, word by word, I fluffed it out to what I have here!
[I was very nervous about this one because I submitted an earlier draft to the H&V admins to see if I could get a special dispensation to enter the new challenge without a beta. They're still mulling over whether my comma usage is a matter of style or error, apparently. In the meantime, I had to strap on a pair and revise the thing ready for posting!]
At the last minute, having seen some of the other kinks showcased, it occurred to me that a rape fic would have worked well with menstrual blood, but that's not the sort of thing I would ever write.
